WV Emergency Grant Program

General Information

Due to the WV State of Emergency declared by Governor Justice relating to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) delays, WVU has received emergency funding for eligible students for the 2024-2025 aid year. This grant is for the 2024-2025 academic year only and is not renewable for future academic years.

Please keep an eye on this webpage for updates as more information becomes available. At this time, we do not have a timeline for when this grant will be available. Students will automatically be considered based on the eligibility criteria and will be notified via their MIX email if they are offered this grant. No additional application is required.

WV State Eligibility Criteria

  • Resident of the state of West Virginia paying in-state tuition and fees.
  • Degree-seeking, undergraduate students.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in degree-pursuant courses.
  • Have at least a 2.0 overall GPA.
  • Student's aid cannot exceed their 2024-2025 cost of attendance (COA).

Offers are contingent based on available funding. This is a limited-funds program, so not all eligible students will be offered the grant.

How do I apply for the grant?

At this time, we do not have a timeline for when this grant will be available. Students will automatically be considered based on the eligibility criteria and will be notified via their MIX email if they are offered this grant.

Reviews have already been completed on eligible students. If you meet the eligibility criteria and have not been notified via your MIX email about your offered emergency grant, please submit an online request for consideration. Be sure to include detailed reasoning for your request, including but not limited to what eligibility requirements you meet. Submitting a request does not guarantee approval, and offers are also contingent based on available funding since this is a limited-funds program.

Is the WV Emergency Grant renewable?

No. This emergency grant is a one-time, non-renewable offer.

Are non-residents eligible?

No. This emergency grant is for WV residents only . Non-resident students receiving in-state tuition rates through programs such as Ohio Tuition Reciprocity or National Guard assessment are not eligible.
