WVU Medicine Employee Dependent Tuition Benefit
To support employees and their families, WVU Medicine provides a dependent tuition assistance program.
Under this program, eligible undergraduate-level, dependent children of WVU Medicine employees may receive a credit for University tuition while attending any West Virginia University campus.

- How is the benefit amount calculated?
- What if I do not have the benefit reflected on my student account?
- Can students receive both the WVU Medicine Employee Dependent Tuition Benefit and the WVU Dependent Education Scholarship?
How do I apply for this benefit?
Employees of WVU Medicine should apply directly through WVU Medicine Human Resources, which is who determines eligibility, deadlines, maximum benefits, and program guidelines. If you have any questions, please submit a Service Request online on the HR OneSource website or by phone at 833-599-2100. WVU Medicine reviews applications received by the semester’s established deadline. If the student is deemed eligible, the University will issue credit to the student’s account.
How is the benefit amount calculated?
The benefit is calculated based on what a student owes in University tuition after other aid, such as scholarships, grants, and other outside support has been applied. This means that in some cases, students may be eligible for the benefit, but may not receive it because other aid has reached or exceed the cost of their University tuition.
University tuition is the only charge eligible to be covered by the WVU Medicine benefit — other items that may appear on a student’s account such as charges for housing, dining plans, and other costs are not considered when calculating the amount of this benefit.
If you have questions about the amount of the benefit reflected on the student’s account, please contact the WVU Hub.
See below for examples of how this benefit may appear on students’ accounts.
What if I do not have the benefit reflected on my student account?
If no benefit appears on the student’s account prior to the start of the semester, they should review any email communications from WVU Medicine and/or WVU Hub. It is possible the student is academically ineligible OR that the student’s grants, scholarships and other tuition support have already covered their University tuition.
Instances in which the student is eligible but their University tuition is already covered by other scholarships and grants, the WVU Medicine employee may be eligible for a separate benefit paid directly to the employee by WVU Medicine. The employee should contact HROneSource for more information.
Can students receive both the WVU Medicine Employee Dependent Tuition Benefit and the WVU Dependent Education Scholarship?
Students receiving the WVU Dependent Education Scholarship are not eligible for the WVU Medicine Employee Dependent Tuition Benefit. If a student has both a parent employed at WVU Medicine and a parent employed at WVU, the employee/student should apply for the program that is most beneficial to them. The WVU Hub cannot advise which program may be most beneficial for a family, as there are many unique factors to consider (work commitments for the employee, tax implications, etc.).
