ABBOTT AND FENNER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The A&F Scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution. To apply for this $1000 scholarship you will need to write an essay on the topic listed on their website. The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words. AEFAIR FORCE SPOUSE SCHOLARSHIPS

Up to 30 AEF Air Force Spouse Scholarships in the amount of $1000 each are offered by the Aerospace Education Foundation Education Office to spouses of Air Force active duty, Air National Guard, or Air Force Reserve members. AIRFORCE ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS

The Air Force ROTC Nursing Scholarship program is designed to encourage students to earn an Air Force Officer Commission through Air Force ROTC and acquire an undergraduate degree in nursing. Air Force ROTC Nursing Scholarships provide for the payment of tuition, fees, books, and incidental costs and a $150 monthly living allowance during the academic year. Students must successfully complete the Air Force Officer qualifying test, an Air Force medical examination, and maintain 2.5 cumulative GPA for all college work. Upon completion of the nursing degree, students must serve on active duty in the USAF Nurse Corps for a period of four years. AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR CANCER RESEARCH (AACR) SCHOLARSHIPS

Awards scholarships to minorities and women enrolled as full-time graduate or medical students, residents, clinical or postdoctoral fellows, or junior faculty members. For more information visit the AACR website.


AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY CHAMPION PROGRAM

The Society has established the College Scholarship Program to assist childhood cancer survivors in reaching their educational goals. The Society’s College Scholarship Program is open to any survivor of childhood cancer who will attend an accredited two or four year institution and diagnosed before the age of 19, and who are currently 25 and under. Applicants must be legal residents of Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. The recipient is awarded $1,000 for the first year and renewals may be awarded in the amount of $500. The maximum scholarship amount to one student will be four awards totaling $2,500. AMERICAN FEDERATION FOR AGING RESEARCH (AFAR)

APhA AUXILIARY/APhA FOUNDATION PHARMACY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

APhA Auxiliary awards ten scholarships each year. Applicants must be active members of the APhA-ASP, and show academic promise. Must demonstrate leadership skills through organizational and/or project involvement with the APhA-ASP Chapter or some other APhA-ASP initiative. ASSOCIATION OF OPERATING ROOM NURSES (AORN) SCHOLARSHIPS

BECKLEY AREA FOUNDATION

The Beckley Area Foundation manages over 130 scholarship funds established by individuals, firms and organizations desiring to assist WV residents in obtaining a college education. Each scholarship application has specific eligibility criteria defined by the donor when the fund was established. For more information visit their website bafwv.org.


DR I.E. BUFF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships are available to students with need attending WVU and first preference given to students enrolled in Health Sciences. Recipients must be graduates of a West Virginia High School.


BURGER KING SCHOLARSHIP

These scholarships range from $1000 to $50,000, and are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average, work experience, extracurricular activities and/or community service. Deadline for submitting application is January 10th. CAMC FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

These scholarships are awarded by the Charleston Area Medical Center to nursing, allied health, and medical students. Applications are accepted each year from May 1 through June 1. The committee will meet around June/July of each year to determine who will receive the scholarships. CHINESE AMERICAN MEDICAL SOCIETY

This non-profit organization has awarded 3-5 scholarships a year to medical and/or dental students and scientists. To be eligible to apply, you must be a matriculating medical or dental student at a U.S. medical or dental school. For details visit the website chineseamericanmedicalsociety.cloverpad.org.


JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students alike. To find out more about this scholarship and deadlines visit www.jkcf.org.


COSTEP PROGRAM

Program offered by the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) to assist nursing students in return for an agreement to work for the PHS after graduation. As an active PHS Officer during the senior year, students will receive pay and allowances of approximately $2300 per month. In return, the students agree to work for the PHS for twice the time sponsored. Interested students should call (301) 594-2919. December 31 is the application deadline for the following academic year. Students must be registered full-time.

DATATEL SCHOLARS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

This independent tax-exempt foundation awards scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students attending eligible client institutions. For more information see the DATATEL Scholars Foundation Scholarships website.


DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION – MADELINE PICKETT HALBERT COGSWELL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

A one time $500 Scholarship for students who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing, who are members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), descendants of members of the NSDAR or are eligible to be members of NSDAR. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is in the Nursing Program must included with the application. DAR Member Number must be on the application. Deadline: February 15 or August 15. Applications are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope to obtain the name and address of your state scholarship chairman and an application. A one-time $500 Scholarship for students who are in financial need and who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is in the Nursing Program must be enclosed with the application. Preference will be given to candidates from the Lowell, MA area. Deadline: February 15 or August 15. Applications are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope to obtain the name and address of your state scholarship chairman and an application. B. DAVIS SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship of $1,000 available to students. To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay of less than 1000 words on the following topic: “What you would consider to be the most important issue that society has to deal with in the next 10 or 20 years? Why do you think this issue is so important?” The deadline for submission is May 27. Submissions are emailed to awards@studentawardsearch.com. This is not an academic scholarship but we would like to know where you are attending school this year and next and what your future academic plans are.


REAR ADMIRAL JOAN M. ENGEL BACCALAUREATE DEGREE IN NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship of $1,000 is offered through the Washington Metropolitan Area Navy Nurse Corps Association (WMANNCA) and is awarded to an undergraduate nursing student with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the WMANNCA Scholarship Committee. Applications are available in the School of Nursing. Deadline to submit application is April 1.


FOUNDATION OF THE NATIONAL NURSES’ ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships are available for students currently enrolled in state-approved Schools of Nursing or Pre-Nursing in associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic doctorate, and generic master’s programs. For more information contact the foundation (718) 210-0705.


THE FOUNDATION OF MONONGALIA GENERAL HOSPITAL HEALTH CAREER SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships available to students in the following career fields: Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, Dietitians, Speech Therapy, Physician Assistant (must have RN degree), Primary Care Physicians (graduate study), Nurse Midwifery, and Physical Therapy. Student must also be a resident in one of the following counties: Monongalia, Marion, Taylor, Preston, Wetzel, or Harrison counties of West Virginia; Fayette or Green counties of Pennsylvania. Applications are available by contacting the Greater Morgantown Charitable Trust (304) 292-3311. Application and supporting documentation must be received by March 15 to The Foundation of Mon General Hospital. Must complete the FAFSA.


ELIZABETH RANDALL HARTMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship awarded to an outstanding female in a health sciences field. No application necessary.


HEALTH CAREERS OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP

To provide scholarships to professional students in the schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing or Pharmacy or who are professional students in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy. Eligibility requirements are as follows: WV resident, in good academic standing and from an under represented population (first generation to college, under represented minority, financially disadvantaged parents/guardians). Preference will be given to students who fit the most number of eligibility criteria, students with large debt and students who are most likely to further the mission of WVU and serve WV. If a student has a tuition waiver or is working on a stipend are not eligible. Recipients will be determined by the respective schools Scholarship Committees in conjunction with the WVU Hub.


HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT & SYSTEMS SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP

The Health Information Management & Systems Society (HIMSS) is an organization focused on better health through information technology. The WV chapter is awarding new scholarships for students studying within the healthcare information and management system field. Two scholarships of $1,000 each and membership in the WV HIMSS Student Committee will be awarded to an undergraduate and graduate student studying in the Healthcare Information or Healthcare Management Systems field. THE HEALTH PLAN SCHOLARSHIP

The Health Plan is offering a need based scholarship (usually determined by Pell Grant eligibility during undergraduate years), intended to offset educational costs (tuition, fees, and required laptop/support fee), for full-time individuals obtaining their Doctor of Medicine or their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and interested in practicing in West Virginia. The student must be originally from The Health Plan Service Area. Scholarship applicants must originally reside in one of the service area counties (those in green).The scholarship can be renewed at the discretion of The Health Plan. Funding is limited and awards will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Repayment required if student does not practice in the State of West Virginia post-graduation. HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND

Several Pharmacy scholarships are available through the Hispanic College Fund. The minimum requirements are: 1) must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident residing in the fifty states or Puerto Rico; 2) must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; 3) must plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student for the upcoming academic year; 4) must plan to be enrolled in a college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. HISPANIC DENTAL ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION

Funded by Procter & Gamble Professional Oral Health. Scholarships awarded to support meritorious work by students who seek to advance their scientific and applied clinical knowledge as they enter into the Oral Health Profession. Maximum award in the amount of $1000 to entry-level students who have been accepted into an accredited Dental or Dental Hygiene program. Students must have permanent resident status in the U.S. and be a current student member of the Hispanic Dental Association. Application is available at Hispanic Dental Association Foundation. The application must be received by the Foundation no later than June 30th for Dental students and July 14th for Dental Hygiene students.


HOPEWORKS SCHOLARSHIP

Provides two, $1,500 scholarships to Monongalia County, WV high school graduates who are regularly enrolled as undergraduate students. Must demonstrate (a) need for financial assistance due to loss of parental support from death, divorce or loss of family income, (b) excellence, commitment, and leadership through involvement in school and community organizations, and high academic promise. Funds come from the Greater Morgantown Community Trust (GMCT). Applications are available by contacting the GMCT (304) 296-3433. Application deadline March 23.


INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP

INTERNATIONAL ORDER OF THE KING’S DAUGHTERS AND SONS HEALTH CAREER SCHOLARSHIPS

Available to students in at least their second year of Medicine (MD), Dentistry (DDS), or Nursing and at least third year of Pharmacy, Physical or Occupational Therapy, and Medical Technology. JAPANESE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA, INC

Scholarship being offered to Medical, Nursing and Dental students who are of Japanese ancestry. Awards of $1,500 to $2,500 each will be presented to qualified students based on evaluation of individual merit and need determined by the scholarship committee of the program. GREATER KANAWHA VALLEY FOUNDATION

The foundation offers many and various ways for you to acquire a post-secondary education. Some scholarships are designated for graduating seniors of certain schools. Others are awarded for specific fields such as Nursing or Law. Scholarships are based on financial need and not academic achievement. CARRIE KOETURIUS SCHOLARSHIP FOR RETURNING WOMEN STUDENTS

Awards are made to women enrolled full or part-time in any WVU undergraduate academic program whose college education has been interrupted for a total of 2 years or who entered college 5 years after high school. JOHN L LEWIS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Scholarship awarded to relative of past or present member of United Steel Workers of America or United Mine Workers of America. Awarded to capable and needy students. Preference given to child, spouse, brother, or sister of present or past union members. Must complete FAFSA and John L. Lewis Scholarship Application by March 1 .


MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION

You could qualify for a Marine Scholarship if you are the son or daughter of a Marine on active duty or in the Reserve, former Marine or Marine Reservist who has received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge, or who was killed while in service of our country, or the son or daughter of an active duty, reserve, or former U.S. Navy Corpsman who is serving or has served, with the U.S. Marine Corps and you are a graduating senior in high school or currently attending college or a vocational/technical institution, or planning to attend college or a vocational/technical institution and your 2009 family income is $82,000 or less. Scholarships range from $500 to $10,000. Graduating High School Seniors application deadline is April 1. MISSION CREEK ORTHODONTICS SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a student who is attending a university on a full-time basis. Must submit an answer to the essay question by the scholarship deadline of May 15. Be currently in your last year of high school or a freshman, sophomore or junior in college. For more information you can visit the MCO website.


LALITTA NASH MCKAIG SCHOLARSHIP

Available to residents of Bedford or Somerset County, PA; Mineral or Hampshire County, WV; or Allegany or Garrett County, MD; who have obtained a high school education or equivalency thereof in any of these counties and who are full-time students at an accredited college or university in the United States. MCNAIR SCHOLARS PROGRAM

This program is open to full-time WVU students who have completed their sophomore year of study, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and are considering graduate school. Applicants must be US citizens and/or permanent legal US residents and be first generation college students with demonstrated need or a member of the numerically under-represented group, such as African-American, Latino-Americans, and Native Americans. EDWARD ARTHUR MELLINGER EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION

The Mellinger Foundation is committed to the support of education, in accordance with the wishes of its founder. Her goal was to provide an ongoing memorial to her brother, Edward A. Mellinger, who believed that education was of major significance to the progress of human society. Accordingly, the Foundation devotes a major portion of its resources to providing scholarship and loan assistance to young men and women from western Illinois and eastern Iowa who attend colleges and universities throughout the nation. MORGAN-ROBERTSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to the student ranked the highest in the sophomore class as determined by the School of Nursing. No application necessary.


YOUR COMMUNITY FOUNDATION INC.

YCF offers a variety of scholarships to help students acquire a post-secondary education. Some scholarships are designated for graduating seniors of certain schools or those who reside in certain counties. Others are awarded for specific fields of study such as music, veterinary practice or engineering. Scholarship applications can be found on their website www.ycfwv.org/scholarships. Applications must be submitted by March 31 to be eligible for review.


MORTAR BOARD FOUNDATION

Each year, the Mortar Board National Foundation awards fellowships to assist members in financing their graduate/professional studies. Annually, members are chosen to receive these fellowships based on a history of academic excellence, strong recommendation, scholarly promise, financial need, and Mortar Board involvement. NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship awards ranging from $1,000-$5,000 yearly are offered by the National Student Nurses Association. Selection of recipients is made in March of each year. For more information or to download an application you can visit the National Student Nurses Association Scholarship website.


NAVY NURSE CANDIDATE PROGRAM (NCP)

This scholarship provides a stipend for full-time students in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Students can apply in their sophomore year. They will receive $10,000 in two installments, plus $1,000 monthly for up to 24 months (their junior and senior years). After graduation, they will be commissioned as officers in the United States Navy and will serve as nurses in either a stateside or overseas Navy Hospital. THE PARKERSBURG AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Foundation administers more than 150 different scholarship funds. You can apply for most of the Foundation’s scholarships through one, online application form. OKEY PATTERSON LPEF SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is annually provided to one student enrolled in a health sciences program. It rotates between Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Selection criteria includes in-state residency and financial need. Must complete the FAFSA. No application necessary.


JOHN PELUSO ITALIAN AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP

P.E.O. PROGRAM FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION (PCE)

PCE was established in 1973 to provide need based grants to women in the U.S. and Canada whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to support themselves and/or their families. Visit the PEO website for additional information.


RACE TO INSPIRE SCHOLARSHIP

Race Entry, LLC is offering a scholarship in the amount of $500 to the winner of our “Race To Inspire” essay contest. College students of all disciplines are encouraged to enter. RELIEF FOR FAMILIES OF 9/11 VICTIMS

The September 11 Scholarship Alliance is coordinating scholarship funds created to assist families of people killed or permanently disabled in terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2001, including airplane crews and passengers, World Trade Center and Pentagon workers and visitors, and relief workers – including fire fighters, law enforcement, port authority officers, and emergency medical personnel. Scholarships are available for victims’ dependent children, spouses, or domestic partners. Each of the scholarship funds have policies and requirements. RN TO BSN ONLINE PROGRAM.COM SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship program will award $500 to a student who values saving money and gaining an education. Applicant must be 18 years old. Applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA based on the previous school year’s academic performance. Applicant will need to complete an application, and submit an essay (400+ words) on why you want to pursue a career in nursing. Entry deadline is July 31. ROYBAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Lucille and Edward R. Roybal Foundation is dedicated to provide scholarships to Hispanic undergraduate and graduate students pursuing public health careers and wishing to provide public health care services in primarily low income, Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. JUNE SATTERFIELD SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships awarded to first-year (freshman) undergraduate Nursing students who: 1) are West Virginia residents; 2) who show academic ability as demonstrated by grade point average; and 3) demonstrate financial need. SENIOR CARE SCHOLARSHIP

Five (5) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded this year. Available to students enrolled in an associate’s, bachelor’s or graduate level program in any field related to Gerontology at an accredited school. This includes students studying Medicine, Nursing, Social Work or Sociology. Award winners will be selected based on a letter of introduction and a 500 word essay on why they have chosen to go into a field that will serve our aging population. The deadline is April 30. THETA CHI FRATERNITY FOUNDATION (SHERWOOD AND JANET ROBERTS BLUE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP)

Available to applicants who show financial need and be either a member in good standing of Theta Chi Fraternity or an employee of Theta Chi Fraternity. To qualify, an applicant must be at least a second semester freshman. All sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students who are candidates for bachelor, masters, doctoral, or other professional degrees are welcome to apply. THOMAS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship may be awarded to a full time or a part time student pursuing a degree in a health care field. The applicant must: 1) provide proof of at least a 2.75 grade point average; 2) have volunteered a minimum of 75 hours in a health care facility. TUITION SCHOLARSHIP FOR CHILDREN OF CLASSIFIED STAFF

A qualified applicant must meet all of the following requirements: a child of a current full-time WVU classified employee; be a legal dependent as defined by the IRS; a student in good standing at WVU or accepted for admission to WVU. The scholarship is for undergraduate students only. The criteria for selection of this scholarship is evidence of financial need as the primary criteria with academic performance, being the secondary criteria. Academic performance will be evaluated on grade point average and also on ACT or SAT scores for incoming freshmen. Applicants not receiving other gift aid at least equal to tuition and fees will be given priority consideration. Scholarships will be awarded by a selection committee. To be considered, applicants must complete the FAFSA, along with the Tuition Scholarship Application for Children of Classified Staff application, which can be obtained online or from the Staff Council Office, PO Box 6850, Morgantown, WV 26506-6850. WVNA VANCE SCHOLARSHIP

The West Virginia Nurses Association (WVNA) annually offers scholarships of up to $1000 to assist eligible Nursing students at WVU. To be eligible, students must either be juniors or seniors, current members of WVNA or WVSNA, exhibit financial need and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Students should apply at the WVU Hub in February. A grade transcript, two faculty references and a self evaluation form are also required. WVU may recommend up to six candidates for these awards. Must complete the FAFSA by March 1.


WVU LOYALTY PERMANENT ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP

The requirements are: 1) financial need, 2) adequate academic standing, 3) good citizenship, as demonstrated by the applicant’s extracurricular activity, and 4) legal resident of West Virginia.
