Freshman Scholarships for Non-Residents of West Virginia for Spring 2020

Current scholarship information and values pertain to incoming freshmen for spring 2020 and is not retroactive to previous classes or currently enrolled students. Students entering WVU prior to the spring 2020 semester may have been offered different scholarships and/or amounts. Future students may also have different criteria or values.

For consideration, students must be admitted as an incoming first-time freshman to the Morgantown campus by the deadlines listed for each scholarship. Please review all deadlines carefully.

West Virginia University awards numerous academic scholarships to incoming freshmen.

Automatic Consideration Based on Admission

Separate Application Required

Top Facts

  1. Scholarships offers are made on an ongoing basis beginning approximately by November for the spring semester.
  2. If a student's residency status changes after a scholarship offer has been made - or they are switched from paying non-resident to resident tuition and fees - the original aid offer will no longer be valid. The change in tuition and fees is a big reduction in educational costs. Students will be re-evaluated to determine aid eligibility. The impact of changing tuition and fee rates is explained under each scholarship.
  3. Scholarship amounts may be affected if students are receiving additional financial aid or assistance. See our Scholarship FAQs page for information on receiving multiple scholarships and/or aid.
  4. You may also qualify for other financial resources to assist with educational expenses. For consideration, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you already submitted the 2019-20 FAFSA but did not initially list WVU as an institution to receive your information, please log in at FAFSA.gov, select “Make FAFSA Corrections”, and add WVU. You can search by name or by the school code of 003827. If you have not submitted a 2019-20 FAFSA, it may still be completed for consideration for some federal loans and grants. To receive the best aid offer available to you for the 2020-21 academic year, be sure to submit the 2020-21 FAFSA by March 1, 2020.

See our Scholarship FAQs for information on applying for scholarships, scholarship offers, summer, and more. See our Renewal Requirements page for information that institutional scholarship/grant recipients need to know about maintaining their scholarship for future academic years as well as deferral and leave of absence information.
