Dependent Employee Scholarship

The WVU Dependent Employee Scholarship (DES) was established to assist legally dependent children (based on federal income tax returns) of benefits-eligible WVU employees.  This includes employees of the Morgantown, Keyser, and Beckley campuses, as well as those stationed at remote sites around the country.

Program Requirements

For consideration:
  1. Student must be the legal dependent of a benefits-eligible WVU employee.
  2. Student must be enrolled full-time as undergraduates or admitted freshmen or transfer students on the Morgantown campus.
  3. Incoming freshmen applicants are required to have a 2.00 high school GPA and a minimum score of 19 on the ACT, or a minimum of 910 on the SAT to be considered. 
  4. Incoming transfer applicants or those who are already full-time WVU students and are applying for the DES for the first time must have at least a 2.50 overall GPA on all college work.
  5. Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to WVU by March 1 for the upcoming academic year.
  6. Submit the WVU Dependent Employee Scholarship Application by February 1 for the upcoming year.
Selection is based on objective academic criteria and family income information.  

Scholarship Awards

  • If chosen, the minimum award is $500 per year and the maximum is $1,650 per year.
  • The scholarship is renewable for eight undergraduate semesters, or a bachelor's degree (whatever comes first).

  • A wards are limited. 
  • Not all students meeting the listed criteria will be awarded.
  • Students missing any of the above listed deadline dates will not be reviewed.
  • DES m ay not be used for summer school.  If a DES recipient is awarded another WVU scholarship whose value is less than the value of the DES, the amount of the DES award may be adjusted - depending on funding available.
  • If a DES recipient is awarded another WVU scho l arship whose value is more  than th e value of the DES, the applicant may be passed over for a DES award - depending on funding available.
